No, New England Patriots legend Rob Gronkowski isn’t coming out of retirement. But he still wants to know why Tom Brady didn’t call him and try to get him.
Gronkowski addressed rumors of a comeback during a recent episode of his podcast, “Dudes on Dudes,” saying that he returned from a trip to Australia to find his phone “blowing up” following a report that he was planning to come back to the NFL.
He wasn’t. But as Gronkowski was hearing from all of these people, he wondered why he wasn’t getting a pitch from a certain minority owner of the Raiders.
“Nope. Tom did not hit me up. I’m pretty disappointed because Tom is now a team owner, and he’s not even hitting me up,” Gronkowski said. “He doesn’t even want me as a player anymore. That must mean he’s looking at me like I’m washed.”
Gronkowski and co-host Julian Edelman appeared to be having fun with the storyline throughout their conversation. So it’s tough to tell where they were being serious and where they were joking.
That’s why it was interesting to see how receptive Gronkowski was to the idea of getting a call from Brady.
“But if he did hit me up, I would listen to his pitch. I would,” the former tight end said.
Gronkowski and Edelman played around with the idea of a comeback, what it would take and who would serve as a good landing spot. However, The 35-year-old Gronkowski said that it simply isn’t in the cards. The tight end would have to drop everything he’s working on post-football and build his life around playing part-time.
