BREAKING: Nuggets Get More Bad News on Injured Star Nikola Jokic

The Denver Nuggets have hovered at the top of the Western Conference standings for much of the season, but the team is now in danger of falling out of the top four and losing home court advantage in the first round of the NBA playoffs.

Denver has lost two games in a row and is 5-5 over its last 10 outings, falling from the No. 2 seed in the West down to No. 4 — one game behind the third-seeded Lakers in the loss column and just one game ahead of the Memphis Grizzlies.

A primary reason for the Nuggets’ slippage in an incredibly close race for seeding position behind the Oklahoma City Thunder has been the health of three-time MVP Nikola Jokic. The generational big man has missed the last three games due to injury, and the news on his status didn’t get any better on Saturday, March 22.

“Nuggets star Nikola Jokic is listed as out again vs. Rockets tomorrow due to left ankle impingement,” Tim MacMahon of ESPN reported on X. “It will be the fourth straight game he misses.”

Jokic has also been dealing with an elbow issue that has contributed to the Nuggets’ continued decisions to rest him. Jamal Murray, Jokic’s co-star during the team’s championship run a couple of years ago, missed the first two games of the three consecutive contests that Jokic has sat out.

Denver was able to eke out a win over the Golden State Warriors without both players as well as a third starter in Christian Braun. However, Murray returned against the Portland Trailblazers Friday night and the Nuggets still lost by 19 points on the third night of a four-game road trip.

The schedule has proven unfortunate for Denver in the way it has coincided with Jokic’s absence. The Nuggets lost to the Los Angeles Lakers in the second game he missed, who are one slot ahead of them in the standings, on Wednesday. Denver will next play the second-seeded Houston Rockets on Sunday in Texas.
