BREAKING: NBA Insider Teases Anthony Edwards-Kevin Durant Trade Talks at All-Star Weekend

Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards and Kevin Durant turned heads at the NBA All-Star weekend after a potential reunion between the Team USA teammates fell through at the trade deadline.

After the Timberwolves were reportedly in the mix of Durant trade talks, Edwards and his idol reunited last weekend. To the chagrin of Phoenix Suns fans, who saw Edwards’ Wolves end their season in the playoffs last summer, the superstar duo shared a handshake and spent time together in San Francisco.

The Athletic’s Jon Krawczynski, who reported on the Wolves’ potential trade talks with the Suns, teased the likelihood that Edwards and Durant discussed the trade rumors involving their teams.

“We saw some video of him and KD hanging out, spending time together — they are good buddies,” Krawczynski said on his podcast. “I’m sure that they spoke a lot and enjoyed each other’s company. I would not be surprised at all if Ant was saying ‘Hang in there, big guy, we’re coming. We’re going to make a run at you again this summer.”

The Durant-to-Minnesota rumors weren’t just chatter in San Francisco.

According to Krawczynski, the Golden State Warriors were in the lead to land Durant at the trade deadline, but there was a caveat.

“Durant didn’t want to be there,” Krawcynski wrote in a Feb. 6 article, adding that Timberwolves sources “believed Durant would have been open to coming to Minnesota.”

Ultimately, a deal was not reached due to Minnesota’s restrictions as a second-apron team.

However, NBA media is coming to a consensus that Durant will be easier to move in the offseason and could depart if the Suns’ season does not go to plan.

“A deal is easier to make this summer over [the] trade deadline; I would imagine that Ant playfully says, “Just hang in there, big fella. We’ll come in and get you. They may have had those conversations this weekend.”

While a deal was not met, Krawczynski considers the Timberwolves’ conversations with the Suns as the foundation for future talks.

“Do I think this lays the groundwork for this summer, for these talks to be revised? One thousand percent,” Krawczynski said on the “All NBA” podcast on Feb. 7. “It’s going to be easier to pull off a deal in the summer so that is something I’ll be watching very closely.”
