The Seattle Seahawks are looking to retool their cap and their roster, deciding Wednesday to release veteran receiver Tyler Lockett, a potential Dallas Cowboys’ target.
FRISCO — The Dallas Cowboys may be looking to fill out their receiver core with more depth and versatility than they had in the 2024 season. CeeDee Lamb remains the No. 1 guy at that position and across this offense altogether, but they need production behind him.
A stable of young receivers has not produced a viable threat on a consistent basis, leaving the team to explore their options through free agency and in the draft. The group coming out of the college ranks holds some promise, presenting a variety of options for the Cowboys in the early rounds.
However, there is still a place here for a veteran pass catcher. Brandin Cooks filled that void over the last two seasons, but the two sides may go their separate ways this offseason.
Tyler Lockett And The Dallas Cowboys

Given his connections to Brian Schottenheimer, there has been speculation about the team’s potential interest in Seattle Seahawks receiver Tyler Lockett if he became available. Wednesday, the “if” in that equation went away.
The Seahawks have released the 10-year pro, choosing to eat the near $14 million in dead money. Lockett would have slotted in as the team’s No. 3 receiver while carrying a cap hit of over $30 million.
Lockett put up all-time numbers with the franchise but will seek out a new home for next season. Could the Cowboys be that best fit?
Dallas head coach Brian Schottenheimer held the post of offensive coordinator in Seattle during Lockett’s peak seasons from 2018 to 2020. Needing a veteran pass catcher in the receivers corps, Lockett could make for an excellent fit.
He has regressed in recent seasons, posting the lowest numbers of his career since 2017 in the 2024 campaign. But at the right price, there is a clear space for him in Schottenheimer’s offense.
Writes our Mike Fisher, urging Dallas to examine a move here: “Lockett can still produce at the level of a low-end No. 2 or No. 3 option. He has also proven to be reliable in terms of being on the field, only missing two games due to injury through his entire career. If Spotrac’s $7.7 million APY projection is even close?
“Schotty should push for this one.”
There are no indicators that the Cowboys will pursue Lockett or how they view their potential options altogether. However, as the team continues to clear more cap space ahead of free agency, Dallas could explore the signing of Lockett and potentially get him at a bargain.
