FRISCO — The Dallas Cowboys dominated headlines all throughout Wildcard Weekend with the dramatic circumstances surrounding their head coaching position. Once they decided to move on from Mike McCarthy, Deion Sanders suddenly emerged as a potential candidate for the job.
Despite the heat of those initial reports, the craze turned out to be nothing more than a conversation between Sanders and Jerry Jones. “Coach Prime” was never interviewed for the position.
The two parties went their separate ways with Sanders affirming his intention to continue building his program at the University of Colorado and the Cowboys settling on Brian Schottenheimer as their next head coach.
However, their viral interaction at Thursday’s NFL Honors has turned heads. Deion Sanders Jr. posted the conversation to social media though most of it was strategically muted.
The only portion of the conversation audibly available comes in a brief moment where Jones tells Sanders “I enjoyed our little talk the other day.”
An interaction rumored to have taken place behind closed doors created a frenzy in the middle of the postseason. Two such icons of the NFL sharing a conversation in front of other celebrities along with a number of cameras and media is sure to stoke the flames of conspiracy.
Could those talks have involved Sanders’ son Shedeur, also present for this interaction? Like not Although previous theories have circulated regarding the Sanders bringing their show to Dallas, the Cowboys affirmed their commitment to quarterback Dak Prescott last fall with the largest contract extension in NFL history.
Perhaps the talks touched on matters completely outside of football. Both may be in the football business, but also possess a keen understanding of the “business” part of their industry.
Or, Sanders and Jones could just be exchanging simple pleasantries here. Sanders played for the Cowboys from 1995 to 1999, helping the franchise win their fifth Super Bowl in his first season with The Star. Jones has maintained relationships with his former players and that could be the easy explanation.
However, when it comes to Jerry and Deion, it is always possible that something greater could be in the works.
