The New England Patriots have won more Super Bowl titles than nearly every other team in their era. Under the guidance of former head coach Bill Belichick and Hall of Fame play of quarterback Tom Brady, the Patriots won six Super Bowls. The only franchise with that many is the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Brady, of course, went on to win another Super Bowl title with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, giving him seven for his career.

Up until this week, no quarterback had won as many championships as Brady, and no coach had won as many as Belichick.

A recent decision by the NFL, though, has caused Brady’s record to be tied and Belichick’s to be broken.

One of the many decisions that the NFL made this week during the annual owners meetings is that statistics and championships from the All-American Football Conference (AAFC) would be included with NFL statistics from that era.

This means that Cleveland Browns legendary quarterback Otto Graham, who led his team to victory in all four of the AAFC’s title games, as well as three NFL Championships, is now tied with Brady for the most Championships won by a quarterback

The head coach of Cleveland in all seven of their title wins was Paul Brown, who now surpasses Belichick’s previous record of six championships. Curly Lambeau of the Green Bay Packers and George Halas of the Chicago Bears also had won six titles as head coaches.

Brady and Belichick still hold their respective records in terms of Super Bowls won.

Another interesting facet of the NFL’s decision is that the 1972 Miami Dolphins are no longer the only team ever to have an undefeated season. The 1948 Browns went 14-0-0.
