Travis Kelce reveals top factor in retirement decision after Super Bowl loss

Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce has pondered his future at the team’s Super Bowl loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.

The superstar tight end has not made a public announcement but did talk about the looming decision with his brother, Jason Kelce, on the “New Heights” podcast

“I’m gonna take some time to figure it out,” Kelce said. “And I think I owe it to my teammates that if I do come back that it’s gonna be a wholehearted decision and I’m not half-assing it, and I’m fully here for them. I think I can play, it’s just whether or not I’m motivated or it’s the best decision for me as a man, as a human, as a person to take on all that responsibility.”

Kelce did show some signs of decline in his age 35 season, amassing 823 yards, his fewest since 2015. He will be 36 for most of next season. ESPN insider Adam Schefter believes Kelce is leaning towards a return.

“As of today, my understanding is he is leaning towards coming back to play again. That’s not how he wants to end his NFL career,” Schefter said.

Kelce is a three-time Super Bowl Champion, seven-time All-Pro, and ten-time Pro Bowler, so he has little to prove. Yet, Kelce apologized to his teammates after the game for the shortcomings he felt were there in the Super Bowl, and that might motivate him to return for one more bite at the apple.
